WIA 2015 WRAP-UP FROM DREW AND STERLING
KICKBACK
Trey Baker: First off, enjoy listening to the show. As a bit of kickback to show #16 regarding purchasing new tools. I find that I tend to buy new tools on more of an "as needed" basis rather than by my wish list. I'm a newbie woodworker, and find myself with almost each project needing a new tool to accomplish the design of my project. Whether a new router bit or completely new tool, the necessity for a particular tool seems to be dictating when and what new tool I buy. Which leads me to my question.
QUESTION
I have a potential customer who has an old high chair that they have restored. Problem is, the chair has no tray, which is what they want me to potentially make. I'm scratching my head trying to figure the best way to make the tray, particularly how to make the outer raised edge of the tray. My initial thought was to use 8/4 stock and carve out the tray surface thereby creating that curved outer lip. I have a router, but not sure how well that would work with a large round-over bit. My next thought us to purchase an angle grinder and use the Arbortech Turboplane to sculpt out the lip and recessed tray surface. What do you guys think about this, or how would you approach this build?. Thanks for any feedback on this.
